A muscle strain — sometimes called a “pulled muscle” — happens when the muscle fibres are overstretched or torn. Whether it’s from a sudden awkward movement, lifting something heavy, repetitive work, or just sitting in poor posture for hours — muscle strains can be painful, limiting and frustrating. If you’re dealing with persistent muscle aches, spasms, reduced strength or stiffness, you don’t have to just tough it out.
We review how the injury started (acute vs chronic), your activity levels, posture, muscle imbalance and compensations. We will palpate the area, assess muscle tone, strength, flexibility, and check for any referred pain or underlying joint issues that might be making the muscle strain worse.
Our treatment plan for muscle strains includes:
Soft-tissue therapy (massage, myofascial release) to relieve tension and promote healing.
Chiropractic adjustments if a nearby joint is dysfunctional and causing extra stress on the muscle.
Therapeutic exercises and stretching to rebuild strength, flexibility and proper movement patterns.
Education on how to avoid re-injury: correct lifting technique, ergonomics, posture, warm-up / cool-down routines.
Rather than simply treating the muscle in isolation, we look at the whole kinetic chain — joint alignment, posture, muscle imbalances — to ensure the strain doesn’t return. Our patients appreciate our thorough, patient-focused approach and our goal of getting you back to full function.
After your evaluation, you’ll receive a treatment plan typically starting with 1-2 visits per week until the acute pain drops, followed by a strengthening and flexibility phase. Healing generally takes 2-6 weeks depending on severity. We’ll track your progress and adjust the plan as needed.
